Validating Marketing URL as a Participant
Overview
This article explains how participants can verify that an event’s Marketing URL (the public event website link) is working correctly. Follow the steps below to confirm the link opens, loads securely, displays the correct event details, and what to do if the URL does not work.
Step-by-Step Approach
1. Open the Marketing URL
- Click the Marketing URL provided in your invite, event message, or event page.
Or paste the full URL into your browser address bar and press Enter.
2. Confirm the page loads successfully
- Verify the page opens without errors (no 404, 500, or other server error pages).
- If the page does not load, try refreshing once.
3. Check the address and path
- Confirm the browser address bar shows the expected domain and path for the event (no unexpected redirects).
- Ensure the displayed URL matches the link you were given or the event slug you expect.
4. Verify site content and event details
- Check the page displays the correct event name, date/time, location (if shown), and registration or information sections.
- Ensure images, session lists, and action buttons (e.g., Register, Buy Ticket) appear and are clickable.
5. Confirm secure connection
- Look for the padlock icon in the browser address bar to confirm the page uses HTTPS.
- If the site is not secure and should be, avoid entering sensitive information and report the issue to the organiser.
6. Test key actions (if applicable)
- If required, try logging in or performing critical actions (registering, purchasing a ticket) to confirm they complete successfully.
- Note any error messages or unexpected behavior.
7. Check mobile responsiveness (recommended)
- Open the Marketing URL on a mobile device to ensure it displays correctly and buttons are usable on smaller screens.
8. Copy and share the URL (optional)
- Use the browser address bar or a provided Copy URL button to copy the link and share it with others.
Troubleshooting & Reporting
- Page fails to load: Refresh the page, clear browser cache, or try an incognito/private window. Try a different browser or device.
- Incorrect content or unexpected redirect: Capture the exact URL and a screenshot of what you see.
- Secure connection missing (no padlock): Do not enter sensitive information and contact the organiser immediately.
- When reporting an issue to the organiser or support team, include:
- The exact URL you used.
- A description of what you expected to see and what actually appeared.
- Screenshots (if possible), your browser and version, and the device used.
Tip: If you suspect the URL is a staging or temporary link, confirm with the event organiser whether the Marketing URL is final before sharing or using it in promotion.
