Adding and Configuring Merge Text on a Badge
Overview
Merge Text fields in the Badge Editor allow users to display dynamic information on badges by pulling data from participant, event, or organisation records. Users can add merge text fields to a badge, select the required data source, apply formatting, and combine multiple merge fields to create flexible and data-driven badge layouts.
Step-by-Step Approach
1. Access the Badge Editor
- Navigate to the Event Dashboard.
- Go to Onsite Check-In.
- Click on the Badges sub-module.
- Select a badge from the list to open it in the Badge Editor.
2. Add a Merge Text Field to the Badge
- As a user, I can drag and drop a merge text field onto the badge design from the available components panel.
- As a user, I can position the merge text field on the badge canvas to control layout and alignment.
3. Select a Field Type and Merge Field
Participant Merge Fields
- As a user, I can select the Field Type as Participant.
- As a user, I can search for and select a Participant merge field to display participant-related data on the badge.
Event Merge Fields
- As a user, I can select the Field Type as Event.
- As a user, I can search for and select an Event merge field to display event-related information on the badge.
Organisation Merge Fields
- As a user, I can select the Field Type as Organisation.
- As a user, I can search for and select an Organisation merge field to display organisation-related data on the badge.
4. Configure Merge Text Formatting and Behaviour
- As a user, I can select a format from the Format field to control how the merge data is displayed.
- As a user, I can select or unselect the Activate Combined Fields toggle to enable or disable merging multiple fields.
- As a user, I can select a filler field to display fallback content when merge data is unavailable.
5. Combine Merge Fields
- As a user, I can combine multiple merge fields into a single merge text component.
- As a user, I can select a filler field for combined merge fields to ensure consistent badge output when values are missing.
6. Apply Formatting Options
- Select formatting options for the merge text field, including:
- Font
- Size
- Alignment
- Position
- Width
- Number of lines
- Text angle
- As a user, I can adjust formatting settings to ensure readability and alignment with badge design requirements.
- As a user, I can preview changes in real time within the Badge Editor.
7. Save and Verify
- Save the badge once the merge text field and formatting are configured.
- Run a preview or test print to verify that merge text appears correctly on the badge.
- Update settings if alignment or data display needs adjustment.
