Kiosk Scan Mode – Offline Mode (Caching)
Overview
Kiosk Scan Mode supports Offline Mode (Caching), allowing participants to check in even when the device has no internet connection. The system uses locally cached event and participant data to validate QR codes and display participant information. Once the device reconnects, all offline check-ins are automatically synchronized with the backend. This ensures uninterrupted operations during temporary network outages.
Step-by-Step Approach
1. Scan External QR Code in Offline Mode
- As a participant, I can scan my external QR code even when the device is offline.
- The kiosk uses cached event and participant data to recognise and validate the QR code.
- The scan result is stored locally and will sync when the device reconnects.
2. View Participant Fields in Offline Mode
- All participant fields that were previously cached while the system was online remain available.
- Common cached fields may include:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Ticket Type
- Registration Category
- Company
- Title
- Custom event-specific fields
- The kiosk displays these fields based on the configuration set in the Check-In App.
- If certain fields are configured as required, the kiosk validates them using the cached data.
3. Handle Missing or Uncached Fields
- If a participant’s updated data was not cached before the device went offline, the kiosk displays the last stored version of that participant’s data.
- Newly created participants or recently updated profiles that were not cached will not appear until the system reconnects and completes a sync.
4. Perform Check-In in Offline Mode
- After scanning a valid QR code, the check-in is processed locally on the device.
- The participant’s status is updated locally to checked-in (cached) until the device reconnects and syncs with the backend.
5. Automatic Sync When Back Online
- When internet connectivity is restored, the app automatically synchronises all offline activity with the backend.
- Items synchronised include:
- QR scans
- Participant check-in status
- Any validation details captured while offline
- The system may display a confirmation message once the sync completes successfully.
