Managing Printer Settings
Overview
Managing printer settings helps ensure that your kiosk consistently prints badges with accurate alignment, proper media handling, and the correct system configurations. Within the Check-In App, users can monitor printer status, adjust technical settings, troubleshoot media errors, and perform essential maintenance actions directly from the printer settings panel.
Step-by-Step Approach
1. Check Printer Power Status
- Open the Check-In App and navigate to Settings.
- See whether the printer is powered on.
- Power off the printer from the interface (when supported).
- View a notification if the printer cannot be powered on.
2. Review Feed Status and Calibrate Media
- Check the current feed status.
- Press the Calibrate button to start media calibration (optimizes how paper moves through the device—reducing skew, stretching, or uneven feed rates).
- See a green confirmation once calibration is successfully completed.
3. View and Update Printer Status (Paused/Unpaused)
- View whether the printer is paused or unpaused.
- Change this value to pause or unpause the printer.
4. Detect Media Errors
- See if there is a media error (means the printer cannot reliably pull, detect, or validate the paper required for printing, so it stops the job to prevent quality defects or hardware damage).
- Use this information to troubleshoot alignment or media issues.
5. Set the Printer DPI
- Set the DPI (print-resolution metric that quantifies how many individual ink or toner dots a printer can place within one linear inch. It is a key performance indicator for output sharpness, image fidelity, and text clarity.)
- Choose between 203, 300, or 600 DPI depending on the badge quality required.
6. Update Blackmark Adjustment
- Update the blackmark adjustment (process of fine-tuning how the printer reads black marks so it can identify badge boundaries, align the print area correctly, prevent double-feeding or misalignment, and ensure consistent, accurate badge output).
- Use this when blackmarks are printed incorrectly across two badges or when alignment is off.
7. Perform a Factory Reset
- Perform a factory reset on the printer.
- Restore all printer settings to default values.
8. Set the Tear-Off Range
- Set the tear-off range (controls where the printer positions the printed label so the user can tear it cleanly along the perforation).
- Apply the fixed tear-off value ranging from -120 to 120 appropriate for your badge media.
9. Enable or Disable the Cutter Option
- By default cutter setting is enabled, as the Kiosk is configured to run with the cutter functionality activated.
- Select or unselect the cutter option (refers to the device’s ability to automatically cut the media—labels, receipts, wristbands, or continuous paper—after a print job or at defined intervals).
10. Set the Primary Language
- Apply the event’s primary language to the printer environment.
11. Set the Timezone
- Apply the event’s timezone for printer logs and system operations.
12. Specify the Printer Port
- Under Advance Settings, specify the printer port used for communication.
- Ensure the correct port is set for a stable printer connection.
