Configuring Participant Settings for the Event
Overview
Participant Settings let you control how participant data is validated when adding people to an event. A key option is Unique Validations, which determines whether email addresses must be unique per participant or whether duplicate emails are allowed. Configuring this correctly helps keep participant records accurate and aligned with your event requirements.
Step-by-Step Approach
1. Expand the Unique Validations Section
- Open the Event Dashboard and navigate to Event Settings → Participant Settings.
- Locate the Unique Validations section and click the header to expand it and reveal the available options.
2. Select Unique Validations: No validation on unique email addresses
- Choose No validation on unique email addresses when you want to allow multiple participants to share the same email address (for example, group registrations or shared inbox scenarios).
3. Add Multiple Participants with the Same Email Address
- With the No validation option enabled, add two or more participants using the same email address via the participants form or bulk import — the system will accept them without showing duplicate-email errors.
4. Select Unique Validations: Validation on unique email addresses
- Choose Validation on unique email addresses to enforce that each participant must have a unique email address. This prevents duplicate entries and ensures 1:1 email-to-participant mapping.
5. See Proper Validation While Adding Participants
- When adding participants:
- If validation on unique email addresses is enabled and you enter an email already in use, the system will display a validation warning and block the duplicate.
- If no validation is enabled, the system will accept multiple participants with the same email without warnings.
- Validation messages typically appear inline near the email field or as a form-level error — follow the on-screen guidance to resolve issues.
Tip: Choose the validation mode based on your registration flow. Use strict unique-email validation for individual ticketing and compliance, and allow duplicate emails for group registrations or administrative workflows where multiple participants share one contact email.
